Happy New "Year"!

Thanks to all the hardworking volunteers and GSO team members, GSO orientation picnic last week turned out to be very successful. The weather was lovely, no raining, a lot of students had enjoyed the event. We got a lot of food, a lot of door prizes that night. We got to know the new students, and the new students got to know the University. We even had some dancing going at the end of the party. Everybody was having fun.

I just hope that this is the wonderful beginning for a wonderful year. Hopefully we will have a good time through the year just like we had in the party. Happy new "year" everybody! Hope you have a wonderful and fruitful year in Graduate School.

Join GSO team! Calling for application to Senator, Judicial Board Members and OMs

Now we are calling for applications to several positions within our GSO team. Did you enjoy our GSO office and want to make it better? Did you love to work with fellow graduate students in this organization? Or do you think you have what it takes to represent fellow students as a University Senator? Send us an application, let's talk about it.

1. Senators

In addition to the Lead Senator elected last semester, we will have 4 additional senators to represent our graduate student population in University Senate. All graduate students are encourage to apply for these positions.


Responsibilities: All GSO Senators are required to sit on several of the University at Albany Faculty Senate Committees. The GSO Senators are required to attend all meetings of the GSO Assembly. Appointed GSO Senators are also required to write a summary of those Senate Committee proceedings, which will be turned over to the Lead Senator who in turn will report at the next GSO Assembly meeting.


2. Judicial Board Members

Three graduate students with good understanding of GSO Constitution and By-Laws are needed in Judicial Board. These are essential to the operation of GSO.


Responsibilities: Adjudicating questions involving the GSO Constitution, By-Laws, Financial Guidelines or Operating Procedures/Guidelines; Mediating disputes brought forward by a GSO member or any other such issue as designated by the GSO Assembly.


3. Office Manager

We need at least one new office manager for our GSO office.

Responsibilities: Keep our popular GSO office operates smoothly, help students with computer, printer, copier and fax machine, manage financial and governmental paper work, order equipment and supplies for the office, and whatever it takes to make GSO office better. Hourly paid.

Hey everyone,

Hope the summer has been well for everyone of you! Next semester is coming up very soon, I can't believe the summer is almost gone!

Next Thursday will be our big party - GSO picnic. It will be a wonderful occasion for us to kick off the new semester. According to the RSVP data up to now, we are expecting 600 fellow graduate students to join the party! We ordered more food and drinks for all of you. A wonderful band is going to play for the whole 2 hour event. We also got a lot of door prizes. It is going to be a fun party.

So, please come! All new and RETURNING graduate students are invited. Please come and enjoy the food and happy atmosphere with new students.

The picnic starts at 5PM in West Garden (between Main Library and Social Science) on Main Campus -rain or shine!
